Therapies

You can access therapy in different ways. It can be in-person, in groups, over the phone, using video chat on your mobile device, smartphone or computer. In-person sessions take place at our offices located at 40 Don Street in St Helier.

We use a range of different therapy approaches. Our sessions are structured and take place over a relatively short time, usually from six to twenty weeks depending on your needs. We use National Institute for Clinical Evidence (NICE) recommended evidence-based therapies:

  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
  • Eye Movement and Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT)
  • Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT)
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
  • Counselling

Our Courses

We also offer courses to help you understand your problems and learn practical skills to cope with them. For some people, working through problems with other poeple who understand what they're going through can really help.

Our courses help you understand your problems and learn practical skills to cope with them.

Courses offer the opportunity to hear from others who are struggling with similar issues to you. You get to see that other people are having similar experiences to you. This can help you gain an understanding of your own problems.

Course facilitators will spend time talking to you about planned topics each week. Group members are encouraged to talk about how they feel too. But you won’t be forced to share your thoughts and experiences.

The facilitators are there to make sure everyone gets the best out of the experience.

About Courses

We normally have 2 facilitators running each group and between 8 and 12 participants.

Sessions usually last between 1 and 2 hours.

They are held weekly at a venue in Saint Helier.

  • MoodTools is a course addressing depression and anxiety. It is known that both problems are characterised by negative thoughts and a reduction in usual activity levels.  In this six week course, you will learn how to build up your activities again as well as how to challenge negative thoughts so that you can gain a better outlook on life. The course also looks at sleep, relaxation, healthy lifestyles, mindfulness and self-care.

  • Compassionate Mind Training is an integral part of Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). This eight week course will help you to understand our tricky brains and how difficult it can be to be ‘human’, whilst teaching a variety of mind and body skills that help you to be with these struggles in a helpful and supportive way. You can learn to direct your compassionate mind to others and to yourself, with the intention to be helpful not harmful.

  • Are you fed up of feeling hindered by anxiety and worry about what others think of you?  Do you find yourself wanting to avoid social experiences and struggle with performance situations?

This course is a new approach for coping with social anxiety based on a recognised and effective approach called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

The facilitators have a deep understanding and compassion for these difficulties and the course is full of interesting and helpful exercises built upon carefully studied clinical applications.
